A series of Chicago-area talks and events between November 15 and 18 are planned featuring Dr. Paul R. Fleischman, Vipassana teacher in the tradition of S.N. Goenka, retired psychiatrist, and author. In his first Illinois speaking tour, Dr. Fleischman will explore the meaning of Meditating in Troubled Times.
The first part of Phase 1 expansion of the center was completed in autumn of 2016 during an extended work period. Center Manager and Long-Term Server Positions
There are two positions for Center Manager currently open at the Illinois Vipassana Center. The general role of a center manager is to organize the maintenance of the center and support servers through all the processes of course service. This can take the form of administrative support, ordering and buying food or supplies, or hands-on instruction. In this varied and constantly changing role, it is always the goal of managers to apply the principles of the practice and be a role model for newer servers in approaching problems with ingenuity and energy and above all, equanimity. It is important that candidates for center manager be well established in their practice and have experience in serving courses.
There is never a shortage of work to be done at the center, and you can help out no matter what your skill level is. We have tasks that range from tending to the grounds, general clean-up and preparation for the next upcoming course, demolition of old buildings to getting the campus ready for winter months. If you can find your way clear to come to the center for a few days to help out, the center will be better for it as well as your practice. We meditate 3 hours a day, and when an AT is present, there is an opportunity for personal questions about your practice. Center work periods are a wonderful opportunity to spend a few days in the peacefulness of Dhamma land serving and sitting with your Dhamma brothers and sisters. There are several three-day work periods to choose from between now and the end of the year. You can sign up using the online course schedule at: https://www.dhamma.org/en-US/schedules/schpakasa
